In the early 1980s, each effort at verse proved a next link in a slowly growing chain of continuity that has now stretched in length forty years. It seems in retrospect better in life to listen most to one's own heart, if one can make out its whispers and soft murmurs, than to continue to hear the noise of too many other people's empty voices.
