Atanacia Santa Cruz Bojorquez was born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1850, of Native American and Spanish ancestry. This is her story and genealogy. Included are: her great grandfather, Modesto Hilario Santa Cruz (b. 1776) m. Mariana Gonzales; her husband, Samuel Hughes (b. 1829); her sister Petra Santa Cruz Bojorquez (b. 1844) m. Hiram Stevens; the Treat family [her daughter, Maggie (b. 1867), married Frank Treat]; and her great granddaughter Patricia Frances Black (b. 1919) m. Clifford Stratton. These histories provide a unique, family and cultural perspective on New Spain and early Tucson.
