Written in 1991 for a publisher which went out of business before it could be published, Early Neuanlage offers a brief and often humorous glimpse into the day to day life of a small, rural, religious, farming community in the early 1900s in Neuanlage, Saskatchewan, Canada. The stories detail the changes from the horse and buggy and steam powered tractor days to the automobile and modern tractor as well as from the Mennonite German schools to the modern, worldy, English schools.

Unable to pursue his interest in writing in his youth, Jacob G. Janzen (1918 - 2002) spent his working life as a welder before health issues forced his retirement, finally allowing him to pursue his passion of writing later in life.
