This is a story of the American Civil War based on family history and military records developed to describe the war for twelve family ancestors who served for both the Union and the Confederacy. Historically based fiction, Volume one follows five ancestors who fought in the eastern theater of the War. They fought in the major battles of the theatre from 1861 until the surrender at Appomattox in 1865. Characters played key roles at Sharpsburg (Antietam), Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The story is an intertwining of their lives at war and the lives of their families. Volume two follows seven ancestors who served in the western theatre of the war. It follows service in the western theatre from 1861 through the battle of Atlanta and on to the surrender by Johnston in North Carolina in 1865. The story is based on the ancestors historical records of service combined with the records of the battles. The whole will give the reader a feel for the ebb and flow of the war and the battles from the perspective of soldiers, each with their personal reasons for volunteering.
