These haiku are all in the 6-7-5 syllable format, and follow haiku's general attention to nature and its contrast with the people and features a traveler might encounter in each of the fifty states. There are at least 60 for each state; the author has traveled extensively and has a keen eye for what makes each state unique. The haiku style can be described as, "if it can be said in 5-7-5, It can be written as it's said," but in general, the harmonious structure throughout the book gives a colorful view of each state as we pass through its four seasons. Each state starts at the beginning of summer and goes right through the seasons until it comes back around, but because the U.S.A. is so diverse in climate, location clues are necessary along with season clues; fortunately, these haiku have both.
