Straight couples can benefit from Dynamic Duos

We all strive for balance and completion of ourselves in our friendships and romantic relationships. As a married woman, I found Dr. Swain's insights very helpful in looking at my own marriage. For example, both of us want to lead when we dance. Two alphas make for an interesting situation. I strongly suggest all people could benefit from reading Dynamic Duos.

Great guide for the laymen

After reading Dynamic Duos, I began to realize why my search for the perfect partner wasn't working. And when I thought the search was successful, I understand why the relationship was doomed. Looking for love in all the wrong places is more than a country song. It was my life. Now I'm beginning to understand why what I thought was my perfect match--essentially my clone--didn't provide the needed complement. Gay men and gay relationships run up against unique obstacles that our parents could have never warned us about. This book brings a fresh approach to the search for a partner. It may not have all of he answers. Nothing does. But it does help bring up the questions we need to ask ourselves in our search. What should I be aware of? What traits in a partner are important to me? How can I be a good partner? And how can we establish a loving relationship and consider ourselves a healthy family? After reading the book, I think I can find some of the important answers.

Outstanding, Eye-opening, and Effective

I was caught off-guard by Dynamic Duos. I expected your standard gay dating/mating book, but it is nothing of the type. The author examines gay relationships from a completely new and fresh angle, using scientific research into the mating behaviors of gay men to reveal the dating patterns that result in successful long-term gay relationships. This insight alone would have made my purchase worthwhile, but in addition, Dr. Swain provides concrete and easy to follow advice on how to put this research to use in your everyday life. I was skeptical at first, but have been following the advice offered in the book and three weeks ago I met a great guy who has never really been involved in the gay world. Is he Mr. Right? I don't know yet, but we've been having a great time together and my hopes are high. And this is coming from a guy who hadn't had a date in two years! Dynamic Duos is well written and is easy to read - it feels like a nice conversation with a good friend. Throughout the book there are stories and quotes from men, (some of which are very sexy). The author doesn't shy away from showing both the good and the bad side of the gay community, and as a result may make some men angry, but if you are seeking a real life-long marriage, a "dynamic duo" of your own, I would highly recommend this book.

Smart and important

An excellent book for the unmarried (or married) gay man, "Dynamic Duos" offers compelling reasons why some same-sex relationships fail and why some work nearly effortlessly. Based on a national study of gay men, Keith Swain outlines persuasive theories of personality and relationships -- and how they relate to you (to be honest, I think some straight people would benefit from the book too). As a long-partnered man, I'm not the book's ideal reader -- but it revealed how miraculous it was that I found the guy I did. Indeed, my only complaint about the book is its brevity -- and the fact that Dr. Swain doesn't elaborate on his theories and experiences further. The whole alpha/beta concept in relation to gay couples raises fascinating questions and areas of exploration. But this is a great place to begin.
