The Morant family from the small town of Wharton Port, LA, takes a trip to a park outside of the city to test the kids' new telescope. As the siblings, Will and Jen, begin to try it with excitement, an object from outer space falls into the ground not far from where they are. The landed object is a spaceship, whose pilot entrusts them with an important message: "The Earth will be destroyed soon. And the only way to escape is on the spaceship." Soon after, a huge cover up is set up to keep people from knowing the truth. Years later, now the young adult siblings, and their secret crushes, David, and Elizabeth, have a new friend, Joshua, a respected member of the community and worker of the Vintage Proverb Cafe, whom they suspect is the pilot of the spaceship. Now, Will and Jen are torn between several conflicts: convince their loved ones to escape in the spaceship, and run from the agents, while a love triangle begins to emerge. After the secret gets out, the townspeople face a choice: ignore the message and stay behind or depart on the spaceship to an unknown destination.
