Mr. Talbert has composed an awesome collection of stories with Duke. The book has an extremely wide span of contents which range from military views to sexual innuendo to an enticing love story. It is amazing how Mr. Talbert was able to tie these diverse topics together in short story form. Duke Barney is a fun loving character who expresses his military view throughout the book. I definitely recommend this book to everyone!!Mr. TalbertKeep up the good work & I'll be waiting for Duke II.
Stories about love and country.

Duke Barney is an old soldier who served as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Infantry in Korea. He bears the scars of that war:on the outside, an ear that was half-shot off; on the inside, a seething resentment that Truman wouldn't let General MacArther finish the war. The ten strong stories in this collection trace Duke's life with compassion and humor--from boyhood to his post-Korea service in Germany, to his later life in Florida, where he meets, wins, loses, and then regains the love of his life, Sabina. And even though he is angry about Korea and Viet Nam, the two wars that he says the old people wouldn't let the young people finish, Duke tells Sabina that this is still the most wonderful country in the world. These stories are priceless gems.
Duke: Stories of love and life.

These ten magnificent stories tell the memories of Duke Barney, an old soldier who fought as a paratrooper in the Korean War. Because Trumam wouldn't let MacArthur finish the war with victory, Duke is bitter: he lost an ear, and his respect for the goverment. But notwithstanding, he never lost the love for his country, nor the respect for his fellow soldiers. Also, the love he shows for Sabina, whom he lost for twelve years, is awesome. And then their reunion on a cold rainy New Year's Eve at Albertsons is the most poingnant piece of ficton that I've ever read. I can't tell you what happened, but you'll love it!
