What is DSM?
The formal classification of mental health disorders known as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) includes information on symptoms, diagnostic criteria, cultural and gender-related characteristics, and other crucial diagnostic details. There are no treatment guidelines in the DSM.
To put it another way, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is a reference guide and diagnostic tool for mental health professionals.
"Specifiers" are also included in the DSM. These are additions to formal diagnoses that specify one or more specific characteristics, such as the onset or severity. To make it more precise, a diagnosis may include one or more specifiers.
To put it another way, a DSM specifier is in a better position to describe specific scenarios because mental health conditions do not always manifest in the same way.
