I have so many books that I have to give them away to friends or donate them to charity because my bookshelves are FULL (and I have A LOT of bookshelves). This book will NEVER be given away or donated no matter how FULL the shelves are. It's a keeper, a jewel of a regency. Pamela Comstock is a delightful, witty, strong willed and devious heroine. Soon after meeting her, Lord Breslau discovers that her act as a boring unattractive lump of a country bumpkin is a charade to avoid her marriage to Nigel, a marriage of convenience devised by her and Nigel's parents. Within one day, the snobbish and cynical Breslau is charmed by Pamela when he discovers she is witty, daring, and NOT at all at lump. Love the last page of the book. Pamela is disguised as a man, wearing Nigel's clothes at a theater managed by Breslau. Breslau is kissing her in his office after convincing her to marry him instead of Nigel(quote from last page): It was several moments later that Pamela sat with her head resting on Breslau's shoulder, "Someone will have to tell Nigel," she murmured. "I've already told him." She smiled softly, "What did he say?" "Kiss me." "An odd thing to say to you! He never said it to me!" "Now!" "Never once, now that I consider it." "Pamela!" "Don't be such a gudgeon, Wes. This is no time for lovemaking. Let us go to the greenroom."
Delightful Joan Smith romance
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
This is one of my favorite Joan Smith Regency romances. The following is an excerpt from the back cover: "Pamela Comstock's semi-engagement to weak-kneed Nigel Raleigh interested neither party. Luckily for all, Nigel's gaze wandered to the Flawless Fleur, the lovely French actress taking London by storm. But when the star quite suddenly vanishes from Nigel's country estate, her dashing manager Lord Breslau joins Pam in separating the clues from the theatrics to find her. Lord Breslau was certainly a disconcerting sort. By turns the jaded sophisticate and the enthusiastic romantic, he acted out the most confounded flirtation with Pam. Thankfully, Pamela was not a girl to be so easily charmed.. or was she?" A great book full of twists, turns, a bold heroine and an intriguing hero, this story will have you laughing and keep you guessing until the end.
