This book is called the Grandfather due to it's focus on the need of fathers, grandfathers and history which will be apparent in some of the poems featured. The title poem, The Grandfather is about my own grandfather and the sayings used when he is speaking with his grandchildren within the poem are exact to the word. His favorite being "Drunk or Sober - Mind your number." We all need to know who we are and the only way to find that centre is through our families or people who know or knew our families telling us about who we are. As the truth of descendants of the captured and transported cannot be founded in the West, my grandfather is a symbol for survivorship. It is because he and other's, including his ancestors who survived a holocaust, that I, and others with similar experience, live. It is for survivors to travel into the truth of who they are through, those who came before us.
