What would motivate a man to drive a school bus for fifty-three years? "Bus Number 7," his lucky number, was the bus he always drove. In fact he chose to drive virtually the same route for all of those fifty-three years. This man happens to be my father, and this book recounts his fifty-three year journey. It is a journey that takes place in rural Wisconsin, very near a town called Westby, with a man who began with a total dislike for driving a school bus and ended with "his Bus Number 7 kids" being his motivation for getting up in the morning. As it turns out, "his Bus Number 7 kids" became one of his main reasons for living. My father was a dedicated, determined man who was a role model for his four children and an inspiration for three generations of bus families as well as an entire community. This book is a collection of stories and memories gathered during my father's long battle with cancer. Many of the stories Dad shared firsthand with me during the many hours we spent together as he underwent treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The rest came from firsthand accounts from current and past school riders and family members of Bus Number 7. This truly is a story of love, respect, and admiration.
