Growing up in Morocco, Driss experiences sexual abuse by older men. Later as a young man he emigrates to the United States, but he struggles to fit in and overcome the trauma of his youth. After starting a family, he is falsely accused of belonging to a right-wing militia, then faces more prejudice and scrutiny following 9/11. These mental pressures along with cracks in his marriage push him to the brink of depression--until he goes back to his home country to face his demons and reconcile with his past. Back in Morocco, Driss tries to bring his tormentors to justice-a quest rife with danger.
