A visual survey of renaissance man George Douglas Lee's art and lyrics inspired by Galveston Island's unique community, distinct island atmosphere, wildlife and beachlife. Soulful and soothing, insightful and irreverent, Lee's art is paired with his vibrant poetic lyrics. Never before published, readers will find Lee's work astonishing and immersive.
Prior to George Douglas Lee's passing, he was working on an "Art Book". It was felt that the book should not be left unfinished. Lee left a legacy of over 400 paintings, a dozen albums and nearly 1,000 songs. There was plenty to choose from. In some cases the lyrics were chosen to reflect the art; in others, the lyrics and corresponding art dichotomies are left to the reader's imagination. The lyrics capture life's joys, loves and losses.
Due to the sheer volume of art and the realities of publication, the pieces that are presented reflect George's island home and it's personalities, and of coastal Texas and Texas heritage. "Drinkin' Margaritas With the Lord" received a blue ribbon from the National Society of Artists Annual Member Show and was a finalist in the Art Book Category of the National Indie Excellence Awards.
