The story of a scorching day in the Italian town of Sanremo. The unnamed first-person narrator, a journalist, is washed ashore on a bathing beach early one morning. He is wearing a tattered suit and has no memory of the previous night-let alone how he ended up in the sea. All he knows is that an important meeting with the editor-in-chief awaits him that evening. Over the course of the day he encounters the strangest figures, real and imagined, dead and alive. They are people unknown to him as well as individuals who once played a crucial role in his life-characters and hallucinations who wish to tell him something they were unable to say while they were alive.

A poetic narrative of unattainable longings, deceptive memories, and errors of perception.
