Dreams and Mirages

The events begin in Argentina in the 1960's and continue with the emigration of the main character Esteban Flores, to the USA, hired by an American construction corporation that specilizes in mega petroleum projects worlwide. The first assingment in the new country, fortuitously takes him to the peculiar State of Louisiana, where he lives an unforseen ydil with a torrid natve "Creole" and this tempestuous romantic episode, introduces him to a new world of lust and sordid deceit. Afterward he moves to Houston, Texas, the important center of the global hydrocarbons industry where he adquires more experience. He later accepts a tempting offer to go to the primitive State of the Alaska to participate in the construction of the pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to the port of Valdez. Here he will meet the woman that changes the course of his life. The first overseas assignment is in the mythical ancient city of Isfahan, Iran, an open museum of the Persian culture. He witnessed the bloodiest moments of the Ayatollah Khomeimi's social revolution that deposed the Shah Reza Palahvi in 1979. Dramatically our protagonist escapes the violence with just a handbag. Months later Esteban is sent to Saudi Arabia where he tries to integrate into a backward society ruled by medieval rules and traditions. The fact he speaks fluent Arabic exposes him to unlawful situations where transgressions and serious offenses are paid with the most valuable possession, the human life. b .
