With Dreamers in a Haunted House (1975),author Marc Lovell (Mark McShane) has offered yet another effective and suspenseful tale guaranteed to provide readers with an entertaining time. When the beautiful young wife of a respected businessman is found dead in a deserted mansion believed to be haunted, the English town of Stilton is horrified. Inspector Cartland sees this as his one chance to retire in a "blaze of glory" from an otherwise unspectacular career with the CID. Unfortunately, the only suspect is the husband, Harold Lumm, whose enthusiasm for the occult led him to explore the "haunted" house in an effort to contact a ghost. Mr. Lumm appears genuinely distressed by the death of his wife, a fact that reduces the Inspector's prospects for proving the husband to be the killer.
