Laurence Catcher just wants a decent night's rest; instead his nightmares give rise to the Guardian, a cross-world defender fighting off full-scale incursions from science-fiction armies, demons, and things from worse places than hell.

In each story, the people inside the dreamed universes live under skies that only exist because someone, somewhere else, closed their eyes. Some are saved. Some are ruined. Some learn what they are. Most never will.
