Introduces Janis, Cassandra, Natalie, Stephanie, and Maria, five juniors at Seven Pines High School in Chandler, Washington, who form a dynamic group of friends who face realistic teenage problems.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is the first book in the Girlfriends series that I read when I was in high school (about 6 years ago) I loved it. It is the first series for young women that deals with real issues and has real characters and in this book they are all introduced. There is Janice the activist (love her), Natalie the rebel (another favorite), Maria the popular girl (with a secret rebel side), Cassandra the classy ballarina and Stephanie the shy and quiet one. Each of these girls are concerned with more than just boys and looking perfect and strong issues are dealt with (racism, interracial dating, bullimia, sexual assault, family issues, love, hate, animal rights, drugs and pregnancy) I highly recommend the entire series and I too was shocked at the end of number 10 and am desperate to find a number 11.
A true look at teenagers

I loved this entire series of GirlFriends books. The books include all the 'bad' stuff that teenagers deal with; it's not all painted a rosy color where everyone is popular, and the so called trauma's are what you're going to wear to the prom. Number 10 leaves on a cliffhanger, and I've never been able to find a number 11. So if you've got one, PLEASE ocntact me.
