The story about Drakestail ("Bout-'d-Canard") was first published by Charles Marelle in 1888, but probably has its roots in 18th century French folklore, probably as satirical commentary on the political situation of the time. Though not a fairy tale in the Waldorf sense, it still has many elements of fairy tale and fable imagery that are very fitting for either grades one or two. The cast of 24 characters can easily be adjusted both up and down, depending on class size. Drakestail's message that "No one can ever have too many friends" is sure to resonate with this age group!
