Sally hopes that most of her troubles have gone away. With the ruthless Coal Company exposed as villains, the assassination attempts have stopped. Master Wentworth, along with Miss Fortuna, are endeavoring to duplicate the magic rings. However, all is not well, because the duplicate rings stubbornly refuse to work. And, if they don't work, the Science Council will withdraw its support. However, a chance inspiration from Sally proves to be effective, and a new set of rings is manufactured, and then successfully tested. But a dangerous situation develops when Master Wentworth and Sally set out to solve the mystery of the alternate world's power source, with the aim of taking it back to their world. They need a special ingredient, but it can be found only in the most dangerous of surroundings. During this expedition, they stumble across an extraordinary sight - one which causes Sally to vow to return, despite all of the dangers. And return she does, overcoming a frightening trial in the process. Then she finds herself immersed in another disturbing dilemma and this one may have serious consequences for the rest of her life.
