Wonderful Story!

Janie Chang writes in such a wonderful story teller way that, even a story that reflects the very limited possibilities for women or poor people in China at that time, is done in a beautiful and somehow hopeful way. The story follows a 6 year old girl into adulthood in early 1900s China. Her "imaginery friend" Fox also lends it almost to have a fairy tale element. It's really well done. I enjoyed this book, learned a lot about Chinese way of life at that time by how the characters navigated their world . I highly recommend it. If you read Three Souls you'll definitely like this one. A similar writer would be Lisa See although I think Janie Chang's books may be even more engaging.
