John Martin Leahy (1886-1967) was one of the more distinctive writers of the pulp era. In his several short stories, as well as three full-length serialized novels, Leahy explored the subgenre of the "lost race" tale, as well as fusions of the mystery tale and the horror story. This is the first of two volumes that will reprint Leahy's complete output of published fiction. Draconda (serialized in Weird Tales, November 1923-May/June/July 1924) takes us to Venus, where Henry Quainfan and his colleagues find an entire quasi-human civilization on that planet and engage in terrifying battles between competing factions of the Venusian people. In a series of short stories, also published in Weird Tales, Leahy introduces the figure of the suave detective Guy Oxford, who solves baffling cases of murder that appear to be supernatural. And in the tale "In Amundsen's Tent," Leahy has written a gripping tale of cosmic horror set in the frozen wastes of Antarctica.
