Gets you thinking

This is a good short book to get you thinking about what's going on in the world on a larger scale. It points out the fact that we are all part of 'systems' that tell us what to do, and that we don't even see it anymore if the system stops playing by it's own rules. Helps to see things in perspective and not blame the people but the system. Our Lord Jesus Christ wants us to see that He conquered the world systems to bring us back to Him, but we have to analyse ourselves to see what systems hold us and if we really want to be free of them. This takes courage and can be a frightening experience, and can even mean the system will turn against us. A book to read from time to time.

Profound...

I first heard this message about 10 years ago. It blew me away! Of everything out there in the playground of Charismania and Evangelicalism, Bob has consistently produced the most insightful, prophetic, relevant, and lovingly critical teaching (which is another way of saying: anointed). I am amazed how Bob has served as a leader to now three generations of believers, and I believe that the reverberations of his work will tremble for years to come! This little book will be one of the founding influences for future leaders and movements in American Christianity. I study philosophy, and the hub of Bob's insights in this book is, quite frankly, homologous to those of cutting edge secular social theory. I am always amazed at how our God gives us resources to think with and beyond the wisdom of the world. In any event, Bob's insights open us to the radical character of the kingdom of God: an almost `anarchic' kingdom with respect to worldly systems of power. This radical kingdom disrupts and resists assimilation into any worldly `arche'. An *An-* archy opposed to simple lawlessness, and an-archy that releases us to our freedom and responsibility: the disruptive and redemptive moment in between lawlessness and legalism. The kingdom of God is a kingdom of responsible freedom and radical resistance to worldly systems of value. Bob shows how the Church itself becomes subject to and dominated by its own creations and organizations, how our commitment to our own creations and POWER ends in dominating us and misrepresents God's nature to a hurting world. A must read.

Interesting

This small book has more in it than many books four times its size! Bob makes amazing aplications of relevant systems and problems within our everyday life with the Lord and those around us. The topic of the Arche is one to really meditate and seek Christ on. A great reference book for years to come.
