A collection of diverse voices and experiences, all springing from a shared legacy: memories of the american South, of being "downhome." Mee introduces each group of stories and then lets the authors reveal aspects of the South from their own female point of view. Introduction by the Author.
This is a really great book, and the stories in this book do a lovely job of showing what it is to grow up Southern - the good, the bad, and the ugly.
So Much To Choose From!

This book was an incredible anthology mostly because of the variety of sories to choose from. In "Downhome" there are stories encompassing every facet of what it means to be a southern female. Stories told from every different perspective, be it era, race, age, economic status, are wonderful examples of Southern writing. Not only are these stories for those who are lucky enough to live in the South, but those who wish they did and those who just want to know what it is that makes this region so special.
