When you're only one foot tall, chasing gnomes down swales probably isn't a good idea.... Brogden is one of the 'Foots,' and he lives with his two aunts in a tiny hut on the hills of Lake Wahkmo. On the day of the big flood, the swale begins to swell like it's never swelled before. When Brogden spots a gnome caught in its rapids, he ignores his aunts' repeated warnings to steer clear of the swale and wades in.
