Down the Rabbit Hole: An Elder Lesbian's 30-Year Journey to Detransition

In the 1970s, visibility wasn't just a political statement-it was a target.

As a butch lesbian and a fierce activist in the Gay Rights movement, Jessi lived her truth out loud. But in a decade defined by hostility, "out loud" was dangerous. Facing relentless homophobia, Jessi made a radical, calculated choice to disappear into a different life to survive.

Down the Rabbit Hole is the raw, unflinching account of Jessi's years immersed within the trans community. It explores the grueling cost of seeking safety in a world that demands conformity, and the ultimate triumph of reclaiming a life on the other side.

A great autobiography about the lesbian experience in the 70's and 80's!

I found myself immersed in her life. Living it with her. All of the ups and downs. About a butch lesbian, who chooses transition to male because she thought her life would be easier. That is a hard path to choose. I had no idea that lesbian mother's had so much discrimination in that time period. It was an eye opener. I see how Jessi made the choice. So glad she found her way back. Things I would have liked to hear more about: her health journey and where she is today in it, what happened to her daughter, and was her family happy she detransitioned? Those were questions I was left with. An interesting read. Sad and heart wrenching at times. Thanks for writing it!
