Down Garrapata Road is a collection of stories about four Mexican American families who endure poverty, WWII, and responsibilities that affect them all. But they deal with their struggles with the help of family and their community
The stories of the past, such as these, repeat themselves in the lives of the people from the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas. One of my favorite story's was "Chatita's Night Out," which reminds me of a Hispanic version of Romeo and Juliet, and still exists in today's border society. A wonderful read!
