Elmo Finn, first introduced in McClister's Victim's Choice , is a former CIA commando as well as a number of other things, although very few people could tell you exactly what. An old Vietnam buddy of Elmo's, now the governor of Tennessee, has been receiving death threats. As the governor and his 'body men' struggle to improve security, little do they expect that the immediate threat is posed by Elmo Finn himself. But as Elmo stealthily penetrates the governor's inner sanctum, another crisis erupts -- the governor's wife is kidnapped. Instead of cold cash, the kidnappers demand an unusual ransom -- the release from prison of a convicted bank robber, whom they mysteriously label a 'political prisoner.' The call goes out to Elmo's old Vietnam cadre, they quickly assemble in Nashville, and the game is afoot. And while Tennessee is not Vietnam, it has its own brand of guerillas -- a shadowy religious cult-cum-well-armed militia that soon becomes the chief suspect in the twisting, turning hunt for the First Lady. The surprises that keep popping up, and the tricks that Elmo and his men learned in war, will fascinate readers and keep them glued to the pages as this action-packed story unfolds.
In Nashville, a woman and two men, code name Red, White, and Blue respectively, kidnap Nikki Gannon, First Lady of Tennessee. Realizing immediately the danger to Nikki, Governor Luke Gannon rejects using the various law enforcement officials to safely rescue his wife. Instead, he turns to retired spook and old Nam buddy Elmo Finn to lead their old military unit in a covert operation to rescue Nikki. In the nearby mountains, a Neo-Nazi encampment is swarming with followers shouting "88" in deference to Hitler. The group demands the release one of their members, a convicted killer. Elmo wonders if these fanatics could be behind the abduction? As he and his commandos search for the kidnappers, they prepare for war knowing that people have already died and more will follow as they confront this Aryan group.DOUBLE DEAL, the second Finn mystery, is an exciting tale that fans of non-stop action will enjoy. The plot succeeds because the action never slows, nor loses focus even with numerous twists, and never reveals the identities of Red, White and Blue until the end. Michael McClister has written a one sitting winner that leaves the audience needing to have Finn's first novel, VICTIM'S CHOICE, to be read immediately afterward.Harriet Klausner
McClister has done it again!

McClister has done it again! I have been anxiously awaiting the second installment in the Elmo Finn Detective series and the author did not let me down. Every thriller lover will delight in this fast-paced, action-packed novel. But there is more than just action - McClister delves into the inner-workings of a white supremacist militia, giving his readers a fly-on-the-wall look at how such groups operate. Furthermore, McClister stays true to the form established in his first Elmo Finn novel, Victims' Choice, by keeping the reader guessing until the last page. His story and plot twists are a refreshing change from so many popular mystery writers who simply throw in an unestablished culprit at the end, leaving their readers disappointed. McClister is of the Christie, Conan Doyle, Le Carre ilk. No charlatans here!
