Dottie and the Keeper of the Wild

By Brittany Petish

Not everyone knows right away who they are meant to become.

Dottie and the Keeper of the Wild is a true wildlife story about trust, patience, and discovering your path. Inspired by the real-life journey of Dottie, a great horned owl ambassador at Bear Creek Nature Center, this gentle True Heart Tails story follows both Dottie and a young wildlife educator named Amberlyn as they grow into lives neither expected.

Through quiet observation, earned trust, and a shared journey of learning, Amberlyn discovers what it means to care for wild animals, while Dottie finds a new purpose helping others understand the natural world.

Blending authentic wildlife education with social-emotional learning, this heartwarming story invites children to explore empathy, resilience, animal care, and the winding path of becoming who they are meant to be.
