Mystery At Wentworth Castle (1940) AKA Doomed to Die (1940)

This is the fifth of the “Mr. Wong” (Boris Karloff film series) found on the Mr. Wong, Detective collection. This is a movie of its time with an oriental Karloff. It was good enough to make a series of Wong movies. We are watching an inexpensive black and white movie. There is too much time spent in the dark with flashlights as a gimmick or maybe attempted for ambiance. Mr. Wong teams up with a girl reporter to investigate a shipping magnate's murder. We have the standard suspects and a detective (Grant Withers) who jumps the gun and arrests the first person to fit his vision of the murderer, so Police Capt. William Street promises to eat his hat if he is wrong. Can Wong save the day, or will he get dispatched in the process? And who did the deed? And did the doer do “hairy hairy”?
