Don't Feed the Dog is a masterpeice.

Upon a casual googling , this novel is about the classic struggle of man vs. crazed animals in a quest to return a town back to its usual? ...Menzies' bold use of metaphor paints graphic and occasionally jarring images which frequently had me re-reading paragraphs, firstly for comprehension and lastly for contemplation. His unorthodox, use of punctuation and verbiage keeps the reader guessing at every turn? What struck me first was the anti-stereotype of the complex and intriguing character of Al. What kind of a man brings two rocket launchers to a dog fight, wishing all the time he had an Apache attack helicopter? "Welcome to the Jungle", "Born to be Wild" the constant soundtrack of his angry alcoholism and visceral struggle for emo' comfort, we find Al fighting gravity tears as he is re-united with the family he risked life and limb to protect. To me, a follow up novel or series of novels is needed to further explore this eccentric, SNAH. The author speaks with an authoritative first-hand insight as he illuminates the nubile coming of age for Tommy, Nell and the gang "this is what they need, to re-establish the previous bond that they once shared, now held together by the rags of society that were once woven together by endless carefree summer days, fun...-filled, a bond instilled, now shutting out what they may have indirectly caused in their now unstable world. They don't want to talk about it much, they don't want to bear the burden. They linger just to feel like normal, carefree teenagers again, that's all, carefree teenagers." - poetic and poignant. Menzies subtly captures the adolescent awkwardness of budding sexuality. I couldn't help but feel like I was penetrating the windows of the author's soul, and yet was still left with so many questions. What depth of inner struggle inspires a man to write: "He doesn't care what anyone thinks, he speaks his true feelings because of the drink"Who could possibly have inspired the sadistic and manipulative character of Nell? Is the vivid description of Jimmy D's first experience with Sasha auto-biographical? I guess we will never know, unless we meet Herbert Menzies in person, or e-mail him. Herbert has truly let the dogs out with this triumph.
