Don't Be Scared Be Aware

The Homeview Family Life Center, Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church, and the Alabama Department of Public Health COVID-19 Community Education Grant are pleased to bring you the first edition of the COVID-19 Youth Education Manual.
Dr. Choona Lang has a Doctorate in Health Education. As a practitioner involved in the early stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic, she saw a need for adults and youth to have quality education about the disease. She found many myths in the community and felt a need to present factual information, especially to the youth.Dr. Lang found such an opportunity during the summer of 2022. Dr. Lang included COVID-19 education in the Annual Summer Enrichment Program at Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church, facilitated by Monette Mottenon, and sponsored by the Homeview Family Life Center. This manual is the result of that initiative. The COVID-19 Youth Education Program includes this Manual and a slideshow presentation. In an effort to educate the youth in our community, we seek to share it with others through print and media. Our hope is that the youth will be empowered to reduce the incidence of COVID-19 through education and action. In addition, they may even find a cure in the future. We hope this Program adds value to your community as it did to ours.
Monette Mottenon, affectionately known as "Ms. Mo", has been encouraging families for over 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Life Sciences and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana State University. She is also a certified teacher. She delights in educating families and children, especially concerning health-related issues. She has had the privilege of molding elementary, middle, and high school scholars to pursue the dreams in their hearts. Monette and her husband, John, enjoy their blended family with adult children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She appreciates creating, taking an idea from infancy to its manifestation. She also delights in reading, traveling, dancing, and writing.
