A most remarkable and engaging read

William Eisner's Done In By Innocent Things is an anthology of original and engaging stories that walk the razor edge of ambiguous moral choices. From a widower who discovers the fountain of youth and must decide what to do, to the put-upon humdrum man who idly contemplates robbing an armored truck, to an older man who must choose between attending to business or spending time with a dying friend, this compendium of short stories are uniformly thought-provoking, perplexing dilemmas of character that fascinate, puzzle, and astound. A most remarkable and engaging read, Done In By Innocent Things is enthusiastically recommended reading.

A Terrific Read!

This book is a terrific read. The novella, the story of a robbery that may or may not happen, grabs you from start to finish. In the novella's stunning and ironic climax, we learn that the threat to the enterprise lies not in the vices of the perpetrators but in their virtues. The robbery is a crack that makes their soul visible. The twelve stories that follow examine an astonishing broad cross-section of humanity. They plumb the lives of people as diverse as a business executive, a con man, an airline stewardess, and a Chinese prostitute. These tales reveal the dilemmas faced by a diverse group of people in their struggle to cope with the circumstance of their lives: a young woman agonizing over whether to have an abortion, another, innocent and vulnerable, inveigled into a cult, and a man in a foreign country losing his grip on reality. At the heart of these stories there is ambiguity and mystery, who we really are and why we behave as we do, sometimes contrary to our best interests. In this imaginative work, written with grace and wit, I think everyone will be startled to find a part of him or herself.Buy it! Read it! You won't regret it!
