Book Overview

Don Quixote, originally published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, stands as Cervantes' belated but colossal literary success. A work which has achieved mythic status, it is considered to have pioneered the modern novel. Don Quixote, a poor gentleman from La Mancha, Spain, entranced by the code of chivalry, seeks romantic honor through absurd and fantastic adventures. His fevered imagination turns everyday objects into heroic opponents and stepping stones to greater glory; each exploit serves as a comic, yet disturbing commentary on the psychological struggle between reality and illusion, fact and fiction. This celebrated translation by Charles Jarvis offers a new introduction and notes which provide essential background information.

Meh

Ordered a "like new" version, but its certainly been read and annotated, at least through the first 60 pages. Readable, but not ideal.

Get this abridged version

A few years back, I read an unabridged version of part one. Keep in mind, this book was written between 400 and 500 years ago. This version is so much better. There are explainer notes at the bottom of some of the pages; to give better meaning to sayings, and to explain customs of the time. It brings more understanding to the story. I laughed out loud. This book is funny.

Top Notch Book Condition

Had to read some of the book for my English class and was one of the more entertaining ones. The font was super small and there were a ton of pages though!

Smollett translation

I have looked at a number of translations of Don Quixote. I don't know why this tranlation is often passed over. It is my favorite by far and I think it stands on its own as a masterpiece. I can't imagine the original language surpassing it.
