Fun and mysterious

It's been about 20 years since I read this book as a teen, but I was quite choosy. I loved the realistic feel of the book...I don't exactly recall why it felt so realistic. It reminded me of the Colorado mining towns that I lived near and visited as a kid...I could visualize everything! I remember it seemed quite exciting at the climax, too. I would love to read it again to get another impression and let my kids read it, too.

A Rainy Day Romance

The emotionally unhinged Laurie Morgan is coerced into confronting her fears about a past she is all too ready to forget. Summoned by an ailing grandmother's wish, a widowed Laurie heads to Colorado accompanied by Hillary Lange, a brooding actor she meets by chance. It is here she meets the vaguely familiar boy from her childhood, Jon Maddocks, a stoic cowboy whose fierce loyalty to her grandmother prevents him from revealing the family skeletons to her. Laurie, herself, must uncover the secrets of the Morgan house that have haunted her memory, and she must clear her own name of the mysterious tragedy that is inextricably linked with it. Phyllis A. Whitney reaches her romantic potential in this story about self-discovery. This lightweight novel deftly combines romantic and suspenseful elements to create a story in which the reader can relate to these carefully molded characters. However, I only recommend this book to those who might enjoy a frivolous and mildly entertaining read.
