An Extraordinary Adventure

John Podmayer has admirably and extensively researched and explored the highly adventurous journey of Domine Johannes from 17th century beginnings in Germany to the Netherlands to Brazil and The New Netherlands of the burgeoning United States during a tumultuous worldwide integration of Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese conquests. Podmayer introduces several actual persons in an intimate portrayal of each life, weaving together an intricate, beautiful quilt as these lives merge into each other. The details of what life was like for our ancestors in the early 1600’s is brought to life, as well as the believable personalities he profiles.Written with great respect and compassion and intrigue, I will read this book again and again! I am one of many of Domine Polhemius’ direct descendants too, which endears this novel to me even more! Well done!
