Of the 180 portal tombs recorded in Ireland, only a small portion, just 10, have ever been excavated.The majority of portal tombs can be found in the north of the country, with a few more in counties Cork, Clare and Galway. But there is however, a large cluster of 39 tombs to be found in the south-east of the island in the six counties of Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.
