Waiting for more by L L Thrasher

I have read all of Linda Thrasher's books (Dogsbody, Cat's Paw, Charlie's bones, and Charlie's web). I have enjoyed all of them and have listened to the on tape as well. They are thoroughly enjoyable, with characters you really get to know and like. The characters aren't perfect either; they have there foibles, but that makes them even more real. Ms. Thrasher works at my local public library and when I asked her when we could expect to see more she said "maybe when I retire, I really don't have time right now." That is rather a depressing thought, because she doesn't look like she will be able to retire for about 10 or more years. I really want to read more about Zachariah Smith and I am hoping that one day we find out what really happened to his wife who abandoned their marriage.

1999 Spotted Owl Award Winner!

You know when a story starts out "I watched myself get shot three times." you have to dig in and find out, who, what, where, when and why. Once I started D.I. I had to finish it, because I knew if I didn't I wouldn't be able to sleep until I had all the answers.During a public Pro-life/Abortion demonstration in Mackie Woods, Oregon, Zachariah and a woman are shot. The first question is, who was the one bullet that hit them both, meant for, Zachariah or the other victim? The second question is, rifle, rifle whose got the rifle? While in the hospital Zachariah receives a call from a father concerned about his run away son. Later the father refuses to hire him and tells him to let the police handle it. Why? That's what Zachariah wants to know and takes on the case for his own reasons. He also try's to track down a mysterious woman who called his office just before he was shot. Was she trying to warn him? After two other's have been shot and his twin sister starts sleeping with her gun, against her husbands wishes, Zachariah is desperate to solve this one! I could not guess whodunit until the author was ready to tell me. That is a sign it was a good mystery... like Agatha Christie's Poirot, when he explains it all at the end and the others say "Of Course." DOGSBODY, INC. was my first experience with L.L. Thrasher's series and a good one at that. She has carried off an intense story line, which is always moving with no boring or slow parts. Thrasher has a way of grabbing the reader's attention and keeping it there. A series worth following!

Stayed Up Late To Finish

I really liked this story about Zach, a PI who is shot at an anti-abortion rally. The wonderfully convulted plot all comes clear in the end. I look forward to reading more books by LL Thrasher.

Sensitive, well-written who-done-it

In Oregon, private Investigator Zachariah Smith watches the video of his being shot during an anti-abortion rally. The same bullet killed obstetrician Dr. Irene Sandhoff. While Zachariah recovers in the hospital, the Chief of Police questions him. The chief wonders whether Zack or Irene was the intended target. The chief and Zack wonder why Irene, who rarely left the building during the protest seemed to be coming towards the P.I. The chief warns Zack to stay out of the investigation. However, feeling guilty that he might have caused the death of the obstetrician, Zack begins his own inquiries even if it means the killer has a second chance to complete the job. The return of Zack is clearly something that fans of who-done-its will relish. As expected from the talented LL Thrasher, DOGSBODY, INC. is an entertaining novel that provides insight from different perspectives to a pressing social question, in this case abortion. Ms. Thrasher deftlyhandles the sensitive issue, treating readers as intelligent individuals. The story line is filled with twists that logically spin together in wonderful tale. Zach remains the star, though his supporting cast such as his sister and Phil (the police chief) augment the novel. Readers who enjoy a compassionate but tough detective story should read this novel and its predecessor, CAT'S-PAW, Inc.Harriet Klausner
