Nice first book in a new series

While it had a few problems, (same as some others have already pointed out) it did have what I want in a first book of a new series, an interesting universe, a likable (if flawed) character with interesting friend/companions, and some exciting action and danger to keep the pages turning. Overall, I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.

Waht a cute series! Supernatural Dog Helper

I loved this book. The characters and the plot is excellant. Louie and Mason are quite the team. This book flows well and has alot of good action. I wish Mason has stayed together with Campbell though they made a good team together,. Look foward to more from this author. Will buy again!

Looking forward to more books in the series

Okay, I can go on and on about the characters, the well described settings, but they're only part of what's good about Mr Levitt's book. An author must be able to create a fantasy world that follows logic. While the world of wizards, practioners, and followers of the magical arts may not be real there has to be a thread of logic or probability, otherwise it's nothing more then a bunch of words strung together. Mr Levitt manages to create for the reader a very real fictional world where practioners do exist and where this story could very easily occur. While things do go wrong and characters don't have the perfect solution to all their problems, it's not because they're stupid but realistic. An excellent start to a brilliant series. Oh, there is an added bonus, the cover, outstanding work.

Magic from the Bay Area

I thoroughly enjoyed John Levitt's Dog Days. The characters were well-developed and interesting. The plot moved along quickly and was constantly engaging. I felt like I was really walking the streets of San Francisco with Mason, relying on his wits to carry us through. Fans of Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas series will love Dog Days. I can't wait for the rest of the series.

A Rising Talent

John Levitt proves himself as an author on the rise with Dog Days. It is difficult not to see a little of Jim Butcher in this story of the improvisational Mason and his Ifrit/dog Louie. While comparisons to Mr. Butcher might garner well-earned press, Levitt should feel proud of the way Dog Days reveals his talent as a writer and a rising star in the genre of urban fantasy. Levitt's characters are as memorable as they are familiar, and even the most jaded reader will find a little common ground in many of the denizens of this excellent story. As for Mason, Levitt provides us with a protagonist whose most endearing trait is his ability to improvise when the stuff hits the fan. There are no easy outs, and the story finds Mason saving himself with common sense as much as magical talent. As for Louie, well...Mason's sidekick is at home in this story as any reader's pooch is at home by their fireside. Dog Days is a story you will want to read in one sitting, and one that will nag at you to finish if you cannot. A highly recommended read for any fan of the genre.
