Does A Dress Have A Life

Millie Hiatt's debut book, Does a Dress Have a Life, is a tour de force of emotion. Millie fearlessly delves into themes of family (when it works and when it doesn't), love, support, addiction, personal growth, generational trauma, and sexual violence. Her voice is strong and clear and demands to be heard.

Millie Hiatt is a poet and storyteller who grew up in rural West Virginia where her grandparents supported her love of words. They ran a small general store in a community gutted by poverty. Her grandparents taught her to see people in every light and on every level. She is the creator and performer of the one-woman show, "Does a Dress Have a Life?". The result of this show is her debut book by the same title. She is the founder of The Spoken Word Society (2014) and the Spoken Word Society Writing Club (2020) in Surry County, NC. These groups were developed to provide a safe space for poets, writers, and storytellers to express their oral art presentation, in a safe, supportive, and open environment.
