We are not called to be martyrs who lay our lives down and that is the end of the story, but rather we are called to lay our former lives down so that we can pick up the life of Christ. Paul in Galatians 2 puts it well when he writes, "I have died, but Christ lives in me. And I now live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me." (CEV) And so we lay all of ourselves on the altar, giving up everything...yet we rise. But even our own resurrection is not a resurrection of our own-we are awaken anew, born again not of flesh and blood but of the will of God. (John 1) Whatever life the believer has after lay down on the altar is now a life IN Christ, through Christ, and for Christ. This is the essence of holiness. This is true worship. This is reasonable worship. This is what it means to be Set Apart.
