Sonya's unshakeable and unbreakable faith in God left me in awe.

WOW... Fantabulous!!! This was a powerful, stirring testimony of the works of God. Nobody but God could have taken heartache, chaos, and confusion and turned it into a story about dedication, triumph, and restoration. In the beginning, I was frustated and confused while reading Divine Madness because I did not know where the story was going. I had difficulty with the pronoun usage, and I kept trying to figure out who was talking. Originally, I had no understanding of the characters; it was as if some information had been left out. As I continued reading, I got hooked around page 30. But, then I was blindsided by new characters, so I had to keep reading to confirm my suspicions. The more I read I realized that the author started with the middle, gave the beginning, and I had to keep reading to find out the ending. Sonya's unshakeable and unbreakable faith in God left me in awe. Shelle did a great job keeping this reader's attention by not divulging all of the information at the beginning of the novel. The character development was excellent. I am so accustomed to knowing the characters' history and personality once they are introduced, but she gave bits and pieces to keep the reader hanging on. I never even anticipated the ending! No ifs, ands, or buts... This is a must read. Four and 1/2 Pink Diamonds Sistah Rita of the SistahFriend Book Club
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak...

The beauty of writing is that while most times it's therapy for the writer even more times it's a testimony for those who feel they don't have a voice. In Divine Madness Shellee's self based character Sonya digs into her inner self and rescues the child in her that feels unloved. The molested young girl whose mind became manipulated into enjoying her violation to the point where it pushed her into a life of promiscuity later accepted abuse for love. The testimony alone in this book is astounding. As the story unfolded I enjoyed seeing how despite the tribulations that seemed to always come Sonya's way she continued to hold on to her faith and put God first and her children next. I even could appreciate that despite the constant abuse of her husband she clutched on to the word of God and tried her best to be obedient. I think that Sonya pushed for her marriage through times where many would have given up long ago. Now a days divorce is so quick to think of but we don't always take the time to try to work differences out. However, when do you let go? Rod was a complete fool and as soon as his sweetness dissolved everyone but Sonya could see through his foolishness. The sub characters also had excellent testimonies that spilled throughout the book causing me to take a deeper look at them as well. While I enjoyed this book it was extremely lengthy. Some story lines were confusing because they were maybe a hundred pages or so apart from the point that they were last introduced and I had to backtrack to refresh myself on who the person was. The first sixty or so pages seemed to drag on to the point where I anxiously awaited the actual plot and had to put the book down and pick it back up a few weeks later just to gear myself up to read it. I personally read a lot of Christian fiction books however this book would seem extremely preachy to the reader who may not be ready for all of the sermons, scriptures and speaking of tongues. Finding a balance in where even the reader who loves urban books will feel a subtle welcome to an inspiration they weren't looking for would be a suggestion. There were some editing faux pas that should be revisited in the next printing. Lastly there were a few unanswered questions in the book. For example Rod just seemed to drop off the face of the earth and wasn't revisited at the end. Their relationship seemed unresolved. Then on the last page Michael is reintroduced but it's left as a cliff hanger. What happened with the golf club? It was referred to but not discussed. What relevance did Jason have? These were some of the questions I had after finishing the book. Ultimately I felt that Shellee's story needed to be told and implore readers to look beyond the length of the book and pick up this book. If you have something that you have been struggling with in your life there may be something in these pages that can help you out. I applaud the author for being vulnerable and letting it all out. I think this book pulls on the heart string of what so many of us are looking for today in the world - love; affection; attention; respect; honor; the desperate need for approval wherever and however we can get it; to fit in, to belong. We've all been there. But in the end, we find that the only thing that truly matters most, is the ultimate, assured VICTORY delivered to us through the cross of Christ. Ms. Mitchell, i say congratulations to you for overcoming the struggle and obtaining for yourself and maintaining the affixed and sure victory of Christ Jesus Our Lord. Knowing Him and having Him for yourself. Amen. Alleluia.
