Distant Traveler: One Survivor's Haunting Experience On a Mission Over The Hump

Book One describes the extremely hazardous air operations conducted across South Asia from 1942-45 through the eyes of a C-46 Curtiss Commando flight crew. The book follows a single aircrew from their base in Chabua, India to their delivery destination in Paoshan, China. To reach Paoshan, the aircraft must fly over the Himalayas and past Japanese fighters always on the lookout to shoot down Allied aircraft as they deliver cargo. The book gives a brutal account of the toll that the war took on this crew and describes their fate during the last three months of the war. The book also introduces characters that appear in all three volumes of this trilogy. More than 30000 aircrew and nineteen hundred aircraft were assigned to fly cargo over the Himalayas (The Hump) from India into China. More than 2600 aircrew and 600 aircraft were lost to air crashes in the Himalayas or enemy action. The book has been thoroughly researched and is historically accurate. The events are real, but the characters are fictional.
