I don't normally read historical novels. I picked this one up because somehow it got nominated for the libertarian Prometheus Award (which usually goes to science fiction.) I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters are vivid and original, the plotting interesting, and the storyline zings along like a first rate thriller. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue of the Dorien Trozen character -- he's like a character out of an Ayn Rand novel, with more dry wit. Be forewarned, however, that this is the first book of a trilogy, the third book of which was never published. Ms. Carey, can't you find another publisher for Hail Nation?
