Shalilya Henry author of With Each Strike Came A Brighter Light is a survivor of abuse which began in her early childhood. At the age of one, she witnessed the brutal stabbing of her stepfather by the hand of her biological father. These poems are an expression of the suppression she fell victim to due to those environmental factors growing up. She began writing as a child as an outlet of expression. She would then use this tool as a method of survival during her trauma which made the news. The attempt of her life by the hand of her children's father and coworkers daughter. She has since then focused on recovering and sharing her story in hopes of prevention and assistance in healing those broken.
