Discovery and Exploration with Timothy & Friends

"Discover and Explore" is a wonderful book in the "Get Set for Kindergarten!" series featuring Timothy and his friends as shown in the series "Timothy Goes to School." This book teachers readers about the seasons of the year, how to nurture and grow plants and animals, and how to do experiments to learn about the world around them. The familiar cast of characters makes this book a welcome treat and it is more than just a cute story. Each page of text features an important lesson and these are followed at the bottom by "The Next Step," which is a suggestion of something one can do in the real world to explore the lesson presented. For example, the characters are shown planting seeds to grow plants and it's suggested that readers grow their own plants. Each page of text also includes a wonderful illustration and opposite is a full page illustration. This book is probably best used in school, or to be read by parents to children, but older children might be able to read it on their own as well. The ending of the book features a Letter to Parents and Educators.
