Stunning treatment of a nasty lifestyle

I could not put this down. McWhirter's characters are so rich, and the painstaking treatment of Spider's journey through a maze of bad drugs, bad people, and bad circumstances swiftly brings you right into her world, and then carries you there for the bulk of this novel. When the end of the book comes, it hits you like a ton of bricks and leaves you with that lingering emptiness that only really good novels manage.
