Directions to My House: Poems

The directions given by this new collection are not so much directions to the poet's house as directions to the poet herself. The first part of the book is made up of pieces of the author's life: her extended family, her childhood memories, and the persistence of girlhood into her adult years. The second section is all about water and what it means to us in its many forms. Part Three celebrates our communion with animals -- in the woods, in the kitchen, in our dreams, and in our distant past. The book ends in the plant kingdom, an "Escape to the Endless Garden." These poems offer a full range of emotion, from tension and anger to pleasure verging on the erotic, and the collection concludes with harmony, a tentative step into grace. Book jacket.
