A favorite children's book of mine

Digby and Kate by Barbara Baker is a story of a cat and a dog who are best friends. They have several adventures together in this book. First off Kate, the cat, is trying to catch a mouse when Digby, her dog best friend, shows up and distracts her from her duties and scares the mouse away by yelling. Kate then sends Digby back to his house. In the next story, Digby is making vegetable soup when Kate comes in. Digby asks Kate to help him with lunch by setting the table, pouring the milk, making cheese sandwiches, and make pudding all while he stirs the soup. They eat lunch and enjoy each others company. After, Digby asks Kate to wash the dishes and she replies by saying, "It is my turn to stir the soup." Other stories in this book include one of Digby painting a room in his house while Kate helps, Kate and Digby go to the beach during fall pretending it's summer, Kate plans to go away on a trip to visit her Aunt Hazel and Digby wants her to stay, and Digby and Kate give each other one of their favorite things. In this book, funny characters and what a child would find interesting keep the 4 year old wrapped up in Digby and Kate's doings. Wonderful to read and save while they grow up. Great lessons as well. One of my favorite children's stories, and a will-be favorite for your child.
